The Dallas Cowboys interviewed New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs for their vacant head coaching position on Saturday.
Gibbs has a history with the Dallas franchise, he was linebackers coach for the Cowboys from 2002-05. When Sean Payton was offered the head coaching position in New Orleans Gibbs became his defensive coordinator. Under Gibbs the Saints had the fourth ranked defense in the NFC, including the number one ranked passing defense.
His tenure with the Cowboys included three seasons with Bill Parcells. Earlier this month Parcells announced that he would not be returning to coach the Cowboys.
Parcells isn’t the only Cowboys coach that Gibbs has worked under. He spent 1975-88 under Barry Switzer at Oklahoma. After Switzer left Oklahoma Gibbs was handed the reigns and he stayed for six seasons. Switzer became the Dallas Cowboys head coach in 1994 and won the Super Bowl in 1995. He remained head coach through 1997.
Speaking about his visit Gibbs said "We talked a little bit about defense, what we'd do if I came here and how I thought we could do some things that might be a little bit different than they did last year.”
