Tanzanian Court Sentences Three to Death in Albino Killing

A Tanzanian court has sentenced three men to death for the killing of an albino teen-aged boy last December.

The judged ordered the men be hanged after they were found guilty of attacking Matatizo Dunia, 14, and severing his legs.

Tanzania has continued to find it difficult to curb attacks on albinos as witchdoctors often pay large sums of money for their body parts. Those body parts are used in potions that witchdoctors claim will bring prosperity and luck.

Wednesday’s sentencing is being seen as a sign that Tanzania has stepped up their efforts to deter such attacks. The three men sentence to death can still appeal the ruling.
