FirstEnergy Plans on Completion of Fremont Energy Center by 2010

FirstEnergy Solutions, the subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) expects construction of the Fremont Energy Center to be completed by 2010 and have the plant operational in 2011. The company had preciously announced they were planning to extend the construction through 2012 in response to the economy and lower demand in electricity. The company now estimates the plant will cost about $200 million to complete.

Calpine Corporation had sold FirstEnergy the plant in January 2008. The plant, located in Fremont, Ohio, includes two natural gas combined cycle combustion turbines and a steam turbine which can produce 544 MW of load following capacity and 163 MW of peaking capacity.
