The spoof that takes shots at “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “The DaVinci Code,” “Nacho Libre,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Harry Potter,” and more has taken the top spot at the box office. “Epic Movie” grossed $19.2 million over the weekend to easily earn the number one spot.
Ben Affleck enjoyed his biggest opening in more than four years with his latest release “Smokin’ Aces” pulling in $14.3 million. The crime/drama flick surrounds the story of a Vegas entertainer that is turning state’s evidence against the mob. Affleck plays an assassin as does Grammy Award winning singer Alicia Keys. The cast in the movie is solid with Justin Bateman, Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Wayne Newton, and Jeremy Piven all playing roles.
“Night at the Museum” seems determined to never give way to day. The Ben Stiller film has remained a staple in the theaters and brought in $9.5 million to take its total to $216.7 million.
Jennifer Garner had to be satisfied with her husband’s debut. Married to Ben Affleck, Garner had her own opening weekend and “Catch and Release” didn’t seem to catch the attention of movie goers. With just a $8 million opening three-days it seems as if the public wasn’t thrilled with a movie surrounding a woman getting over the death of her fiancée and discovering the secrets that he had kept from her.
