Schafer Law Firm Expands into the Bakken Oil Field

The energy boom has been beneficial to all kinds of visible industries from construction to food service. It has also been a boon to hidden industries such as community organizers and lawyers.

One type of law firm that the boom is attracting is those specializing in workplace injury. Brent S. Schafer's firm is a Minnesota injury attorney practice and is one of the firms now serving the region.

Schafer notes that while the new jobs have been a boon to the economy and added jobs to the region, oil field work is dangerous and can result in injuries caused by slip and fall accidents, explosions and malfunctioning equipment. When these injuries are caused by negligence on the part of oil companies or their employees, injury victims deserve just compensation for their medical bills, lost wages and other damages stemming from the accident. The Schafer firm has vast experience handling North Dakota Bakken oil field injury cases.

He also says that if a worker is injured on the job in the oil field, time is of the essence. Often, worksites where injuries occur are taken down and dismantled within weeks. Therefore, if you or a family member is injured, there are some things you can do to protect yourself whether outside counsel is needed or not.

Schafer recommends immediately reporting injuries to supervisors and safety personnel. Also, make sure everything is documented and that you get copies of the documentation and appropriate care. Also, if there is any evidence that you are able to collect, do so. He also added “You really cannot contact counsel soon enough, ” then adding the caveat that many of those who call his firm are not able to used outside counsel and instead must work their way through the existing state workman's compensation system.

Prior to moving his focus to the oil field, Schafer's nearly 20 years of practice has netted him special recognition from the Minnesota Bar. He is a published author and frequent lecturer for Continuing Legal Education seminars. He has appeared on CNN, ABC World News Tonight, MSNBC, Fox Morning, Good Morning America and provides training for mandatory continuing education for attorneys. In starting his new Bakken focus, he has joined forces with Hilliard Munoz Gonzales, a well-known Texas firm that focuses on oil field injuries in the southern part of the country. The firms handle Bakken oil field injury cases on a contingent fee basis, which means that clients will not pay an attorney's fee unless money is recovered, through verdict or settlement, for their injuries.

Attorney Brent Schafer is a member of the national attorney network on LawyerCentral.com.
