Florida Gators and Wisconsin Badgers hold steady at one and two while the North Carolina Tar Heels and Ohio State Buckeyes move up. UCLA falls after being upset.
The #1 ranked Florida Gators survived a scare on Wednesday but managed to beat Mississippi State 70-67 and then defeated their second SEC opponent of the week, Auburn, 91-66 on Saturday. On Wednesday the Gators will face #24 Vanderbilt and then take on Tennessee on Saturday.
For the #2 Wisconsin Badgers the week extended their winning streak to 17 games. The Badgers knocked off Big 10 foe Michigan by 13 on Wednesday and they topped Iowa by 11 on Sunday. Wisconsin will travel to Indiana on Wednesday to take on the Hoosiers before hosting Northwestern on Saturday.
With their 88-60 win over Wake Forest on Wednesday and the 92-64 pounding they put on then #17 Arizona on Saturday the North Carolina Tar Heels rose to #3 in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll. The Tar Heels have a pair of ACC match-ups this week with Miami (Fl) on Wednesday and N.C. State on Saturday.
Moving up to #4 this week are the Ohio State Buckeyes who beat Northwestern 59-50 on Wednesday and then survived a scare from Michigan State, holding on to a 66-64 victory on Saturday. Ohio State will take on Purdue on Wednesday and then face Michigan State for the second time in a week on Saturday.
After handling California 62-46 on Thursday the UCLA Bruins were tripped up by Stanford 75-68 on Sunday and fell to #5 in the AP Top 25. The Bruins will be hosting #9 Oregon on Thursday. The Ducks are coming off their own PAC 10 upset loss which make should make both teams hungry for a win. The Bruins will then face Oregon State on Saturday.
The #6 Kansas Jayhawks enjoyed a pair of blowouts this past week, an 82-56 win over Baylor on Wednesday and then their 97-74 victory over Colorado on Saturday moved Kansas up one spot. They will be facing Nebraska on Monday and then take on #10 Texas A&M on Saturday.
The beneficiary of losses incurred by those ahead of them, the Pittsburgh Panthers moved up two spots to #7 this week. The Panthers beat Cincinnati 67-51 on Wednesday and then pounded St. John’s 72-46 on Saturday. Pittsburgh will be taking on Big East rival Villanova on Monday.
The Duke Blue Devils managed to climb a bit higher in the AP Top 25 after beating then #19 Clemson 68-66 on Thursday and easing past Boston College on Sunday 75-61. The Blue Devils are now ranked #8 after Oregon and Texas A&M lost. On Thursday Duke will be facing Virginia and on Sunday they will take on Florida State.
Despite losing by 12 to Washington on Thursday and then narrowly beating then #20 Washington State 77-74 on Saturday the Oregon Ducks didn’t tumble far, dropping two spots to #9 in the AP Top 25. Oregon has big game on Thursday when they take on #5 UCLA. They will then face USC on Saturday
The Texas A&M Aggies fell to #10 in the Week 13 AP Top 25 after losing 68-66 to Texas Tech on Wednesday. The Aggies bounced back to beat Oklahoma 70-61 on Saturday. Texas A&M will host Iowa State on Wednesday and then travel to #6 Kansas on Saturday.
