New York Grand Jury Charges Najibullah Zazi in Terrorism Plot

A New York Grand Jury has charged Afghan-born Najibullah Zazi, 24, with conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction in a terrorism plot that included at least two other men, one being Zazi’s father.

Zazi, who was detained last Saturday night, has denied all the charges and said he was not involved in a terrorist plot but investigators found bomb-making instructions in his house in Denver as well as other supporting evidence.

A statement from the U.S. Department of Justice said Zazi, “knowingly and intentionally conspired with others to use one or more weapons of mass destruction, specifically explosive bombs and other similar explosive devices, against persons or property within the United States.”

While Zazi was born in Afghanistan he has been a legal resident of the United States since 1999.
