Barefoot Runner Gets Tough Lesson on Pennsylvania Roadways

Tellman Knudson, running barefoot from New York to Los Angeles to raise $100 million for homeless youth, plodding along on Rte. 54.

FRACKVILLE, Penn. (September 24, 2009) --  A Vermont man running barefoot across America is learning some tough lessons about the Keystone State's highway system.

"When I was training back home in Vermont, I was able to choose my roads. And they were, for the most part, smooth sailing," said Knudson on a pause from his run on Rte. 54 in Mahanoy City. "But there is a lot of sharp gravel and other variables to contend with here in Pennsylvania."

Among other roadside debris, Knudson has come across "spiky acorns", bits of broken glass, truck mufflers and rusty nails. He even found a mannequin head while running through Nusquehoning.

"For all the jabs the roads are throwing me, I must say the people in this state are awesome!" said Knudson. "So supportive and friendly. People have been pulling over on the side of the road and donating to RunTellmanRun like crazy."

Knudson, an internet marketing entrepreneur, is running barefoot from New York to Los Angeles to raise $100,000,000 for homeless youth. He started his run in New York City on September 9.

Knudson is making his way through the center of the state toward Sunbury and eventually to State College. He'll then move on to Chicago, where he'll hook up with Rte. 66 and arc down to Los Angeles. His route can be tracked live at www.runtellmanrun.com/route-map.

About Tellman Knudson:

Tellman Knudson, 32, is a serial entrepreneur who has had great success in internet marketing. He is CEO of OvercomeEverything, ListBuildingClub and several other ventures.  Tellman learned to leverage his ADHD, a condition that hinders many, to his creative and financial benefit. He has even been CEO of a busy hypno-therapy practice.  Tellman was born with, but has overcome femoral antiversion, a crippling leg condition that made simple walking difficult. He dedicated his high school years to running, by competing in cross country and by running the 7 miles to and from school each day. By strengthening his leg  muscles, his condition eventually corrected itself without invasive surgery. He went on to set records in his school and even competed for the state title. Tellman resides in Vermont with his wife and long-time partner, Jodi Meehan, and toddler son, Torger.

About Youth Homelessness:

Over two million youth (between the ages of 12 and 24) will experience at least one episode of homelessness each year and over 100,000 youth sleep on the street for six months or more in America.  The vast majority of homeless, street-dependent youth will experience amplified risk of exposure to physical assault, rape, sexual exploitation, recruitment into gangs, and deepening mental health illnesses.  Tellman Knudson has set a goal of raising $100 million dollars to help create the programs to reduce the risk these youth face on a daily basis, help get them off the streets, and rebuild their lives.
