Sonoco (NYSE: SON) has announced the launch of its True Blue ™ brand. The brand will be used as the umbrella brand for products and services that meet specific sustainability requirements. The official launch of True Blue™ will take place at the Sustainable Packaging Forum in Atlanta, Ga.

A few qualifications for a package to enter the Sonoco True Blue program are that it must offer a clear advantage over the package it intends to replace. To achieve this, the package has to use more sustainable matericals or source reduction during the production of the package. Other qualifications include the use of less energy, water or raw materials. The package can also results in fewer carbon emissions. The production of the package can also results in few carbon emissions. Any of those improvements should be able to be verified through a life cycle assessment.
