New details emerged Tuesday about the sudden death of Mindy McCready’s boyfriend, singer-songwriter David Wilson. The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office revealed 34-year-old Wilson committed suicide. He was pronounced dead from a self inflicted gunshot wounded Sunday evening at an Arkansas hospital. He shot himself at his home in Heber Springs. It is unclear if McCready was the one who called 911.
McCready’s rep, Kat Atwood, also confirmed the news to People magazine. "It was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Now they're working on funeral arrangements and figuring out where to go from here,” says Atwood.
McCready herself has attempted suicide three times. Her first two attempts came in 2005 after her split from country singer Billy McKnight. The third attempt happened in 2008.
The 37-year-old country singer dated Wilson for about 2 years. They welcomed their first child together, son Zayne, last April. McCready is also mom to 6-year-old son Zander with McKnight.
"David was my soulmate. He was a precious gift from God to all of us and, yesterday, he returned home and is now with his mother and father. David loved and was loved. Those who knew and loved him will miss him; those who did not know David missed the opportunity to know a truly loving and gifted man,” McCready said in a statement Monday.
