Tim Russert Sr. Dies at 85

Timothy Russert Sr., the father of the late Tim Russert, has died. Russert died from natural causes Thursday, his family said in a statement. He was 85.

Russert’s son wrote about him in his 2004 book ‘Big Russ and Me,’ in which Russert Jr. told about lessons he learned from his father.

“While he was affectionately known to the world as 'Big Russ,' he carried no more important nor meaningful titles than those of father, grandfather, great-grandfather, patriot and friend," the family said in a statement.

Russert Jr. died suddenly in June 2008 of a heart attack. He was one of television’s most well known political correspondents. Russert, 58, was the host of NBC’s Meet the Press.
