Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has criticized the West for intentionally undermining the power-sharing government currently in place in the country, saying the “filthy clandestine divisive antics” have been “ruining the lives of our children.”
Mugabe was speaking specifically about the sanctions that have been placed on him and several of his allies, those sanctions have prevented him from traveling as well as accessing assets that are kept abroad.
Several countries including the United States, Canada, Australia and the UK have imposed sanctions that have targeted Mugabe despite his acceptance of a power-sharing deal that included his bitter rival Morgan Tsvangirai. While addressing the UN General Assembly Mugabe took shots at those countries saying “If they will not assist the inclusive government in rehabilitating our economy, could they please stop their filthy clandestine divisive antics.”
Mugabe has blamed those sanctions for Zimbabwe’s continued struggles to recover from an economic meltdown. While Mugabe has blamed the West the finger has been pointed back at him as many say his economic policies, which included the seizure of farmlands from white owners, led the country to its current crisis.
