#9 Miami Hurricanes (2-0, 2-0 ACC) take on their ACC rivals #11 Virginia Tech Hokies (2-1) in Blacksburg on Saturday at 3:30pm ET on ABC.
The Hurricanes have been rejuvenated this season despite having the nation’s toughest early schedule. The ‘Canes went from unranked to the top 10 of the AP rankings after they defeated then-No. 18 Florida State Seminoles, 38-34, on the road in their season opener, then beat then-No. 14 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 33-17.
QB Jacory Harris has become a Heisman contender after leading UM in their first two victories after completing 69.5% of his passes for 656 yards and five TDs.
Miami is averaging 35.5 points and leads the ACC with 465.0 yards of total offense per game. Last season, the Hurricanes averaged 326.0 yards and 27.1 points.
Much of that improvement can be attributed to Harris. The Hurricanes passed for 196.8 yards per game in 2008, compared with 328.0 yards early this season
The Hurricanes face their third Top 25 team to start the season. Next week, they host #10 Oklahoma Sooners to complete their tough season beginning.
The Hokies are led by QB Tyrod Taylor, who is now the full starter after splitting time with Sean Glennon last season. The dual-threat quarterback had a lot of pressure heading into their season opener after starting running back Darren Evans suffered a season-ending injury. However, redshirt freshman Ryan Williams has stepped up, running for 342 yards and six TDs.
