The company cited that it is leaving due to differences over climate change issues, according to Associated Press.
A statement from Public Service Co. of New Mexico, a subsidiary of PNM Resources Inc. (NYSE: PNM), says the utility sees climate change as a pressing environmental and economic issue and that it can be most productive by working with organizations that share its view on the need for "thoughtful, reasonable climate change legislation."
PNM's decision to leave the nation's largest business organization comes on the heels of a similar announcement by California utility PG&E Corp. (NYSE: PCG).
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been critical of the Obama administration's efforts to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.
