Powerball Jackpot Won by World War II Vet

In one of the largest single-ticket lottery awards in U.S. history, a WW II veteran claimed the $254 million prize.

Jim Wilson II, 84, purchased the winning ticket at a grocery store in Missouri. The magic ticket, 9-19-29-42-53 and Powerball number 17 has left the retired electrician stunned. At a news conference earlier today Wilson, who was accompanied by his wife, Shirley, said “I was absolutely astonished, I couldn't believe it, and still don't.”

The couple said that they would be sharing the money with their three sons and setting aside a chunk for their grandchildren as well as their great-grandchildren.

Wilson has the option of receiving the $254 million dollars over 30 years or taking a lump sum of $120 million before taxes.
