Comet 217P Linear over M42, The Great Orion Nebula

Rolando Ligustri's image of Comet 217P Linear over M42, The Great Orion Nebula, has won the Amateur Astronomy Picture of the Day (AAPOD) today.

Rolando is a long time user of Global Rent-A-Scope (GRAS). He used a GRAS remote access telescope in New Mexico, USA - that anyone can control over the internet - to take this stunnning image of Comet 217P Linear as it passes the Orion Nebula Complex.

Now is great time for anyone interested in Astronomy to try Global Rent-A-Scope's free trial membership. They offer 60 points of free access to their remote telescopes G3 (in New Mexico) and G13 (in Australia). Registration does not require a credit card or any commitment from you.

We encourage everyone to participate in Astronomy.FM's daily and monthly AAPODs. Register to vote for your favorite images.  You can also submit pictures that you've taken. We look forward to more excellent AAPOD pictures on Astronomy.FM in October!
