Brazil has said they will not comply with the orders of the interim government of Honduras which has demanded they define the status of ousted leader Manuel Zelaya within ten days.
Zelaya, who was removed in a coup on June 28, managed to sneak back into the country on Monday and has been holed up in the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa. Brazil, along with several other countries, has called for the restoration of democracy in Honduras which would include Zelaya being returned to office.
In response to the latest demands of the interim government Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said “Brazil will not comply with an ultimatum from a government of coup mongers.”
Honduran soldiers have continued to surround the embassy but Brazil has warned against any attempt to storm the building, insisting the embassy was protected by international law.
