Daniel Briere recorded a hat-trick and the Buffalo Sabres (34-14-4) blew out the Boston Bruins (22-23-4) 7-1. The Sabres scored twice in the first period and then added four goals in the second period in the rout. Maxim Afinogenov had three assists for the Sabres and Martin Biron had 25 saves.
The Toronto Maple Leafs (24-21-6) scored three goals in the third period to beat the Carolina Hurricanes (26-21-6) 4-1. Nik Antropov scored twice for the Leafs and Andrew Raycroft stopped 28 shots on goal in the win. Bate Battaglia had a pair of assists for Toronto.
The Tampa Bay Lightning (27-23-2) fought back to beat the Philadelphia Flyers (12-32-6) 4-3 in overtime. Vincent Lecavalier tied the score at 3-3 in the third and then scored the game-winner in extra time for the Lightning. Martin St. Louis added a goal for Tampa and assisted on Lecavalier’s third period goal.
Slava Kozlov and Marian Hossa scored in the shootout to give the Atlanta Thrashers (29-16-8) a 5-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils (30-15-6). Ilya Kovalchuk scored twice for the Thrashers and Kozlov finished with three assists in the win. Jamie Langenbrunner had three assists for the Devils.
The Detroit Red Wings (32-14-6) scored three goals in the third period to force overtime and then Henrik Zetterberg scored in extra time to beat the NY Islanders (23-21-6) 4-3. Nicklas Lindstrom had three assists and Niklas Kronwall had a goal and an assist in the Detroit win.
Martin Gerber stopped 35 shots and Dany Heatley scored a goal and added an assist as the Ottawa Senators (30-21-2) beat the Washington Capitols (21-23-7) 3-2. Jason Spezza had a goal and an assist for the Senators and Daniel Alfredsson scored the opening goal for Ottawa in the first,
Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 32 shots he faces as the Pittsburgh Penguins (24-17-8) skated past the Florida Panthers (19-23-10) 3-0. Michel Ouellet scored a goal and had an assist while Dominic Moore and Ryan Whitney added goals. Both Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby had an assist.
Wojtek Wolski and Andrew Brunette each scored a goal and had an assist as the Colorado Avalanche (25-21-4) beat the Nashville Predators (36-13-3) 4-3. Colorado jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period but the Predators tied it on goals from Jason Arnott and Paul Kariya. Wolski gave the lead back to the Avs and Milan Hejduk made it 4-2 in the third
The Minnesota Wild (27-21-4) scored four goals in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and went on to beat the St. Louis Blues (20-23-8) 5-2. Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored a pair of goals for the Wild while Brian Rolston, Wes Walz, and Petteri Nummelin each had two assists.
The Calgary Flames (27-17-6) scored two goals in the second period and another two in the third to beat the Los Angeles Kings (17-30-6) 4-1. Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 35 shots for the Flames while Craig Conroy netter two goals. David Moss had a goal and an assist while Alex Tanguay had a pair of assists.
Nikolai Zherdev scored the deciding goal in the shootout as the Columbus Blue Jackets (21-25-5) beat the Vancouver Canucks (28-19-4) 3-2. Columbus had goals from Anson Carter and Dan Fritsche in regulation while Vancouver had goals from Daniel Sedin and Sami Salo.
The Dallas Stars (30-19-2) overcame a two goal deficit to defeat the San Jose Sharks (33-17-1) 3-2 in a shootout. Philippe Boucher netted the tying goal with three-seconds remaining in the third to force extra time.
