The parents of 38-year-old Awatef Aboudihaj filed a wrongful death lawsuit against R&B singer and Grammy Award-winner Brandy on Tuesday. According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Aboudihaj’s parents are seeking $50 million in compensatory and punitive damages from the “Moesha” actress for her role in the death of their daughter.
While driving on an LA freeway in December, Brandy ran her 2007 Land Rover into the back of Aboudihaj’s Honda. The Honda then hit another car and slid sideways hitting a canter divide. Within seconds Aboudihaj was hit again by an oncoming car. The married, mother of one was killed in the accident.
California Highway Patrol have investigated the accident and determined Brandy to be at fault and have recommended the 27-year-old singer be charged with a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter. If charged and convicted Brandy could be facing one-year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Police have ruled out drugs and alcohol as a factor in the accident and there is no evidence that Brandy was using a cell phone at the time of the collision.
