Danny Gokey is a first time father! Gokey and his wife of 1 year, model Leyicet Peralta, welcomed a healthy baby boy on Sunday. Baby Daniel Emanuel weighed in at 8 lbs., 11 oz.
“Leyicet and I are overjoyed to welcome the new member of our family. I’m ecstatic to be a first time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with,” Gokey says in a statement to People magazine. “Thankfully, because of what I do, it will also allow me the flexibility to spend a lot of quality time with him. I have so many exciting projects ahead this year but a brand new baby is an amazing way to get the new year started. We feel really blessed!”
The American Idol alum announced Peralta’s pregnancy last summer.
Gokey, 32, and Peralta, 26, wed on January 29, 2012 after about a year of dating. It is Gokey’s second marriage. His first wife Sophia died in 2008 from complications relating to routine surgery for congenital heart disease.
