Having already had enough of the media circus surrounding Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman, head coach Lovie Smith fired at reporters asking about a scenario in which the QB may be replaced during their Super Bowl match-up with the Indianapolis Colts, "Rex Grossman should not be asked that question. I shouldn't be asked that question. Rex is our quarterback. I should not have to continue to go over that. I am not planning on pulling Brian Urlacher or Olin Kreutz, either."
For the better part of the Bears 13-3 season Smith has had to answer questions and defend his choice for sticking with Rex Grossman. While Chicago achieved the best record in the NFC many have credited the Bears defense for overcompensating for their often anemic passer.
Grossman has put together some games in which he has looked like an All-Pro and then he has had performances where he has looked awful. But since the playoffs began Grossman has proved to be a capable of leader of the Bears offense and has done little to hurt them. As a matter of comparison, Grossman has thrown one interception in Chicago’s two playoff games while Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has tossed six interceptions. Both quarterbacks have thrown two touchdowns, with Manning having an extra game in hand.
