Facebook is working with the U.S. Secret Service, which is investigating the matter, company spokesman Larry Yu said Monday. The application, which allows users to conduct surveys of Facebook members, was used to create the Obama poll.

Facebook, which has about 300 million users, allows outside developers to build applications on its site. These programs let users do things like send virtual greeting cards and review books.

Facebook says more than 70 percent of members use an application every month. Facebook, based in Palo Alto, California, opened its site to third-party developers about two years ago.
