Mackenzie Phillips Gives Hope to Those Struggling with Addiction

Mackenzie Phillips is on a press tour promoting her book "High on Arrival" speaking frankly of her 30 plus year battle with addiction. Ms. Phillips shares her experience as an addict and the fact that addiction can be overcome. With her honest accounting she is giving hope to those who believe they are stuck in their addiction.

Rebecca Pool, C.A.D.C.  (Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor) of Narconon Arrowhead, one of the countries leading residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities states, "I am encouraged that with Mackenzie Phillips coming out and speaking about her trials and tribulations as an addict and how she has overcome them will give others the courage to face their addiction now knowing there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Many of our clients upon arrival say they have given up of having any future free of drugs and/or alcohol which we here at Narconon know is not the case."

In 2008, an estimated 22.2 million persons (8.9 percent of the population aged 12 or older) were classified with substance dependence or abuse based on criteria specified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Tragically, 22.2 million people are leading a life they had never expected growing up as child and committing acts they would never have imagined before addiction entered their lives.

According to Narconon's Pool, "The person actually sees drugs and/or alcohol as a solution to the problem and starts to drink and/or use drugs. From that point the person will start to use drugs and/or alcohol more and more in an effort to solve the problem. In the end it will only increase their problems."
