Donald succeeds Dale Henley, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Henley will serve as the company's non-executive chairman and remain president and CEO of Haggen affiliate Briar Development Co.

Donald served as president and CEO of Starbucks, but was forced out of the company in January 2008 as part of a major restructuring effort by the coffeehouse chain. He is also the former president and CEO of privately-held supermarket company Pathmark.

Haggen runs 33 supermarkets in Washington and Oregon under the Haggen Food & Pharmacy and Top Food & Drug brands.
