John Couey, Jessica Lunsford Killer, Dies in FL Hospital

John Couey, the sex offender who abducted and murdered 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford, has died. Couey, 51, died of natural causes in a Jacksonville, Florida hospital. No other details were available.

In 2007, Couey was sentenced to death after admitting he abducted Lunsford from her bedroom and buried her alive in two plastic trash bags in February 2005. The case prompted Florida and other states to tighten laws on sex offenders.

Earlier this month, Couey petitioned for a new trial.
