X Games Snowmobiler Caleb Moore Dies From Injuries Sustained In Crash

Caleb Moore, an X Games snowmobiler, has died from serious injuries he sustained last week at the Winter X Games snowmobile freestyle finals. Moore’s family confirmed the 25-year-old passed away Thursday morning.

"He will be truly missed and never forgotten,” the family said in a statement released through spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson. "The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for all the prayers and support they have received from all the fans, friends and family around the world that Caleb has inspired. Arrangements for a celebration of life are being made and an announcement will be made in the coming days."

Moore suffered bleeding around his heart and a “secondary complication involving his brain” after crashing last Thursday at the X Games in Aspen, Colorado. He was attempting to perform a backflip, but was unable to land properly. The 450-pound snowmobile hit his head and chest. Moore underwent emergency heart surgery the following day, but by Sunday his condition had worsened.

Moore's younger brother Colten Moore, 23, also sustained injuries in a crash during the Snowmobile Freestyle finals. He was briefly hospitalized for a separated pelvis, but he is expected to recover without surgery.

"We are deeply saddened by Caleb Moore's passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents, Wade and Michelle, his brother, Colten, and the entire Moore family. He will be remembered for his natural passion for life and his deep love for his family and friends, and he will always be an inspiration to everyone he touched in the action sports community,” ESPN said in a statement.
