Stealing a bit of the Super Bowl spotlight, iron-man quarterback Brett Favre announced that he will be returning to the Green Bay Packers next season. Favre announced his intentions to play in his 17th NFL season earlier today.
Speaking to the Sun Herald in Biloxi, Miss. Favre said, "My offensive line looks good, the defense played good down the stretch, I'm excited about playing for a talented young football team."
The three-time NFL MVP led the Packers to an 8-8 record last season and kept them in the playoff hunt through the final game of the season.
Favre is currently six touchdown passes shy of tying Dan Marino’s record of 420 and just over 3,600 yards shy of Marino’s 61,361 total passing yards record. Favre passed the legendary Dolphins quarterback record of career completions during the 2006 campaign.
Brett Favre has played in 237 consecutive games at the quarterback position, an NFL record that he considers his greatest personal achievement.
The revered Green Bay quarterback led the Packers to two Super Bowl appearances, including a Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots following the 1996 season.
