#7 USC Trojans will travel to face in-state rival #24 California Golden Bears in Berkeley on Saturday at 8pm on ABC.
Southern Cal (3-1, 1-1 Pac-10) will start freshman phenom Matt Barkley at quarterback in his second game back from suffering an injury against Ohio State. He missed the shocking loss to Washington, but returned to help USC defeat Washington State, 27-6.
USC running back Stafon Johnson, who rushed for 16 yards and one touchdown against the Cougars, suffered a crushed neck and larynx after the bar he was bench pressing slipped and fell on his throat. Johnson had to undergo an emergency tracheotomy followed by reconstructive surgery.
They will rely on Joe McKnight to replace Johnson, who was the Trojans' leading rusher last year with 705 yards and nine touchdowns.
Cal (3-1, 0-1 Pac-10) has their own feature back in Jahvid Best, the Pac-10's leading rusher last season and a Heisman Trophy contender. Quarterback Kevin Riley is one of the leading passers in the conference.
USC has won five straight over California, including the last two meetings in Memorial Stadium.
