College Football Scores: #3 Alabama Crimson Tide Drops Kentucky Wildcats, Mark Ingram Puts Up Big Numbers in Win

Mark Ingram rushed for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 22 carries, Greg McElroy threw for 148 yards and two TDs and the #3 Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0) forced four turnovers to knock off the Kentucky Wildcats (2-2) 38-20 on Saturday.

It was Ingram who provided the first points of the game as the sophomore running back scored on an 11-yard run to give the Tide an early 7-0 lead but a pair of 49-yard field goals from Kentucky’s Lones Seiber had the Wildcats within one at the end of the frame.

Alabama’s offense continued to stall through the second quarter but McElroy finally gave them a bit of a cushion when he hit Colin Peek on a 3-yard toss with 40 seconds left in the half for a 14-6 lead. That’s the way it looked like score would stand heading into the locker room but a Kentucky fumble was returned 45-yards for a touchdown by Courtney Upshaw and the Tide headed into the break with a 21-6 advantage.

As he did in the first quarter Ingram found the endzone in quick fashion to start the third quarter, breaking a 32-yard touchdown run to push the Alabama lead to 28-6 and minutes later Leigh Tiffin added a 36-yard field goal and Kentucky was buried in a 31-6 hole. The Wildcats did respond with a Mike Hartline 45-yard touchdown toss to Randall Cobb but Alabama answered with a drive of their own that ended with a 7-yard touchdown pass from McElroy to Darius Hanks and the lead was back to 25 points.

Kentucky put points on the board in the fourth quarter when Alfonso Smith scored on a 2-yard run but that would be the last time the Wildcats would dent the scoreboard.
