Tom Brady was 21/32 passing for 258 yards and a touchdown and added another on the ground, Randy Moss had three receptions for 50 yards and a TD, and the New England Patriots (3-1) used a late fourth quarter defensive stop to hand the Baltimore Ravens (3-1) their first loss of the year 27-21 on Sunday.
New England managed to put points on the board on their first possession as Stephen Gostkowski booted a 32-yard field goal for an early 3-0 lead but Joe Flacco led the Ravens response and when he hit Derrick Mason on a 20-yard touchdown strike Baltimore grabbed a 7-3 advantage.
Brady would answer in the opening minute of the second quarter as he scored on a one-yard keeper and the Patriots would add a 12-yard touchdown run from Sammy Morris to take a 17-7 lead into halftime.
With the Ravens offense struggling they turned to their defense for points and when Brady fumbled midway through the third quarter Dwan Edwards picked it up in the endzone and Baltimore was within 17-14. New England answered though as Randy Moss scored his first touchdown of the year when he hauled in a 14-yard toss from Brady and the cushion was back up to ten.
Flacco would bring the Ravens back though and when he hit Willis McGahee on a 13-yard touchdown pass in the opening minute of the fourth Baltimore was once again within three. Gostkowski would push the Patriots advantage to six when he kicked a 33-yard field goal with 7:14 left in the game but the Ravens would find themselves in position to win the game late. Flacco took his team down the field and had the Ravens on New England’s 14 with 32 seconds left but on 4th and 4 Mark Clayton dropped a perfect pass and the Patriots took over on downs.
