“The Messengers” Delivers in Box Office Debut

Sony Pictures scored the top movie at this weekends box office after “The Messengers” brought in an estimated $14.5 million from ticket purchasers. Facing stiff competition from the Super Bowl Sunday frenzy, the horror film starring Kristen Stewart and Dylan McDermott managed to hold its own.

The Mandy Moore and Diane Keaton romantic comedy “Because I Said So” finished in the number two spot at the box office after bringing in $13 million.

Last weeks number one movie, “Epic Movie,” fell to number three at the box office with $8.3 million. The spoof flick suffered a 56% fall from last week, largely due to a target audience that concentrated more on football than movies this weekend.

The amazing run for Ben Stiller and “Night at the Museum” continued as the Fox film pulled in an additional $6.7 million to bring its seven week total to over $225 million.

“Smokin’ Aces” starring Ben Affleck and Alicia Keys finished fifth at the box office with $6.3 million in its second week.
