49TH Grammy Awards: Justin Timberlake Favored to Win Album of the Year

While most people feel that John Mayer is the strongest candidate in the field of five artists up for Album of the Year at this year’s Grammy Awards, not many are betting against Justin Timberlake to take the statue for FutureSex/LoveSounds.

Timberlake’s double platinum FutureSex/LoveSounds reached the top spot on the Billboard charts after featuring two number one songs, SexyBack and My Love. Timberlake won a pair of Grammy Awards in 2004. His album Justified was named Best Pop Vocal Album with the single “Cry Me A River” earning him a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

Despite the buzz that surrounded Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds it was John Mayer’s album Continuum that earned the highest accolades from critics. In 2003 Mayer took home a pair of Grammy Awards. Winning for Best New Artists and again for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Your Body Is A Wonderland." Mayer followed that up with two more Grammy Awards in 2005 for Song of the Year, “Daughters” and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Daughters.”

Backed by the strength of the single “Waiting on the World to Change” Mayer is up for five Grammy Awards.

Rounding out the field of five for Album of the Year are, Dixie Chicks, Take the Long Way; Gnarls Barkley, St. Elsewhere; and Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stadium Arcadium.

The 49th Grammy Awards will be handed out Feb. 11
