Lindsey Vonn Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

Lindsey Vonn is doing well after surgery on her injured knee, according to U.S. Ski Team physician Dr. Bill Sterett. Sterett performed the surgery on Sunday in Vail, Colorado.

"The overall success rate for ACL-MCL [anterior cruciate ligament-medial collateral ligament] surgery is very good," Sterett said in a statement. "Modern surgical techniques combined with aggressive rehabilitation will help Lindsey make a full recovery. She will do everything in her power to return as quickly as possible to competitive skiing."

Vonn sustained torn ligaments in her right knee and a lateral tibial plateau fracture in a crash at the World Championship Super G race in Schladming, Austria last Tuesday. A hard landing caused her to lose a ski, slide off course and slam into a gate. In a statement to Us Weekly magazine the following day Vonn said she plans to “work as hard as humanly possible” to get back to top form for the next World Cup and the 2014 Olympic games in Russia.

"First off I want to say thank you to the amazing medical staff that cared for me. I plan on returning to Vail as soon as I can to have the necessary surgeries,” she said. "I am also grateful to my fans for the outpouring of support, which has really helped me stay positive. I can assure you that I will work as hard as humanly possible to be ready to represent my country next year in Sochi."
