Storage Wars star Make Balelo was found dead of an apparent suicide Monday at his Simi Valley, California auction house. The 40-year-old appears to have died of carbon monoxide poisoning. His body was discovered by an employee inside a running car parked in a garage at the auction house. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office said an autopsy will be performed today. No other details were immediately available.
Balelo’s death comes just two days after his arrest for possession of a controlled substance. He was said to be distraught upon his release from jail. Balelo was due in court on February 19.
Balelo owned the asset liquidations company Balelo Inc. He was featured in the second and third seasons of A&E’s Storage Wars. In 2011, Balelo helped actor Nicolas Cage recover a copy of a $1 million, 1938 Superman comic book that had been stolen from Cage’s storage unit 10 years earlier.
