Chi Magazine Editor: Reaction To Pregnant Kate Middleton Bikini Pictures Is “Over The Top”

The royal family’s statement speaking out against an Italian magazine for obtaining pictures of pregnant Kate Middleton in a bikini did nothing to deter the publication from printing the photos in their new issue. In fact, Chi magazine features two of the photos on their cover. In one of the pictures the Duchess of Cambridge is walking along a Mustique beach hand-in-hand with husband Prince William.

Chi editor Alfonso Signorini defended printing the images on Wednesday. “They are images of such unexceptional normality that there is only limited mention of them on the cover of the magazine. The photographs, which can in no way be considered scandalous, were bought from an international photo agency, do not harm the image of the protagonists and the reaction of the media seems to me wholly over the top,” Signorini told BBC.

"Moreover, the photographs can hardly be considered an invasion of privacy when the subjects are public figures in a public place, in the open air; specifically on a beach surrounded by other bathers. What our readers will see is simply a moment of joyful relaxation being enjoyed by a smiling, happy couple. Where's the scandal in that?" he said.

Chi is the same magazine that published pictures of Middleton sunbathing topless with William last year.

On Tuesday, St. James Palace called the latest round of photos a “clear breach” of the Duke and Duchess’s privacy. "We are disappointed that photographs of the Duke and Duchess on a private holiday look likely to be published overseas," a palace spokesperson said. "This is a clear breach of the couple's right to privacy."
