Conor Kennedy is making headlines again, but this time it’s not because of a romance with Taylor Swift. The 18-year-old is in the news for his arrest on Wednesday.
Kennedy and his father Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were arrested outside the White House along with 46 others during a Sierra Club protest against the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline that would bring oil from Canada to the Gulf Coast. The group reportedly blocked a main entrance and refused to follow police orders to move. Actress Daryl Hannah, Sierra Club director Michael Brune and activist Julian Bond were among the protesters.
"Handcuffed to White House gate in act of civil disobedience for climate change!" Robert Kennedy tweeted at one point.
The Kennedys paid a fine for civil disobedience and were released from a Park Police station. Brune released a statement saying, "For the first time in the Sierra Club's 120-year history, we have joined the ranks of visionaries of the past and present to engage in civil disobedience ... We cannot afford to allow the production, transport, export and burning of the dirtiest oil on Earth via the Keystone XL pipeline. President Obama must deny the pipeline and take decisive steps to address climate disruption, the most significant issue of our time."
Conor and Swift split last year after a brief romance.
