Jennifer Lopez to be Presented with Artist for Amnesty Award

Jennifer Lopez will be honored with the Artist for Amnesty Award bestowed by the Berlin Film Festival.

Lopez, 37, will be receiving the award for her work producing and starring in the film Bordertown. The movie, set for release early this year, examines the real-life events that have taken place along the U.S. Mexico border in Juarez, Mexico where hundreds of women have been murdered or disappeared since 1993.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Jose Ramos-Horta will present Lopez with the Artist for Amnesty Award on Feb. 14, the day before the film premiers at the Berlin Film Festival.

Speaking about the need to make the film, Lopez said “I began working to ensure we made this film in order to bring the attention of the world to this tragedy and to pressure the Mexican government to bring to justice those responsible for these horrible crimes.”

Antonio Banderas and Martin Sheen also star in the film.
