Looking to cast himself in a new public light, Tom Cruise appears poised to star alongside Ben Stiller in the comedy “The Hardy Men.” The film is meant to be an updated version of the classic book series The Hardy Boys.
The book, written by a host of authors, followed a pair of teenaged brothers who had a penchant for solving crimes. The comedy with Cruise in Stiller will depict the two as all grown-up yet still carrying on with their detective work.
Shawn Levy’s name has been floating around as the potential director in the comedy but he is slated to direct “The Flash.” Levy worked with Stiller on the blockbuster film “Night at the Museum” which is still holding strong at the box office. If Levy could finish “The Flash” before filming begins for The Hardy Men in October he may be on.
The comedy might be just what Cruise needs for a public makeover. The Mission Impossible star has seemingly done everything possible to alienate himself from the public with bizarre behavior on Oprah Winfrey’s show, attacks on antidepressants, and his shots at Matt Lauer on The Today Show.
Cruise has starred in some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters, among them, “Mission Impossible,” “War of the Worlds,” and “Top Gun.” Stiller is no stranger to blockbusters either. He has appeared in “Meet the Parents,” “Meet the Fockers,” “There’s Something About Mary,” and “Madagascar.” “Night at the Museum” has already become the 54th highest grossing film of all time.
