Mindy McCready Commits Suicide

A month after the suicide of her boyfriend, troubled country singer Mindy McCready has taken her own life. Authorities say McCready died of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head around 3:30 p.m. Sunday at her home in Arkansas. The 37-year-old’s body was found on the front porch.

The Cleburne Country Sheriff’s Department said McCready’s death is under investigation. "Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound," the department said in a statement. "At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. McCready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated."

McCready’s “soul mate” and the father of her 9-month-old son Zayne, singer-songwriter David Wilson, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on January 13. “He was a precious gift from God to all of us and, yesterday, he returned home and is now with his mother and father. David loved and was loved,” the singer said in a statement at the time. “Those who knew and loved him will miss him; those who did not know David missed the opportunity to know a truly loving and gifted man.”

In addition to Zayne, McCready was mom to 6-year-old son Zander with ex-boyfriend Billy McKnight.

Earlier this month, an Arkansas judge committed McCready to a treatment facility because her family was concerned about her mental health and substance abuse. Family services removed Zander and Zayne from her care.

McCready attempted suicide three times in the past. Her first two attempts came in 2005 after her split from country singer Billy McKnight. The third attempt happened in 2008. McCready’s troubles also included substance abuse, rehab stints, multiple arrests, and jail stints.

McCready’s hit songs include “Guys Do It All The Time,” “Ten Thousand Angels” and “A Girl’s Gotta Do (What a Girl’s Gotta Do.”
