The 49th annual Grammy awards have finalized their lineup of performers for the Feb. 11 show and among the late additions are Shakira and Wyclef Jean performing together, Lionel Richie and Smokey Robinson teaming up for an R&B tribute, and Rascal Flatts with Carrie Underwood partnering for a tribute to country.
Highlighting the show will be the reunion of The Police, rumors have surfaced that the trio will perform their hit “Roxanne.”
Several of the scheduled performers are also up for a Grammy. Leading the list is Mary J. Blige. Her critically acclaimed album “The Breakthrough” is up for R&B Album of the Year, while the hit single “Be Without You” received nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Blige also received a nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for her work with U2 on the song “One”. In all Blige was nominated for eight awards.
James Blunt is another dual performer/Grammy hopeful. Blunt enjoyed an incredibly successful year with multiple award nominations as well. His hit single “You’re Beautiful” is up for Record of the Year as well as Song of the Year, it also earned him a Best Male Pop Vocal Performance nomination. In addition to his single, Blunt was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album for “Back To Bedlam”
John Mayer, up for three Grammy Awards, is also slated to perform. “Waiting on the World to Change” earned John Mayer a nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and his album “Continuum” was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album. Mayer jumped into the rock realm as well with a nomination for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for “Route 66”.
Justin Timberlake, the Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Gnarls Barkley are all artists who are up for multiple nominations and scheduled to perform.
Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, and Ludacris will also take the stage.
