Mindy McCready was laid to rest in her hometown of Ft. Meyers, Florida on Tuesday with a “Celebration of Life” ceremony in which about 400 friends and family gathered to pay tribute to the troubled country singer. The ceremony was held at Crossroads Baptist Church.
"Mindy adored her two children. She wanted them to know that. Through much agony and pain, she went to heaven. She is no longer sick. She is healed. Thank you for all who are here. Please pray for those boys. No matter what, she will always be my little girl, sitting in her car seat, singing into a hairbrush. The world was her stage,” McCready’s mother Gayle Inge said.
McCready died of a self inflicted gunshot found on Sunday, February 17. She left behind two sons – 9-month-old son Zayne with the late singer-songwriter David Wilson and 6-year-old son Zander with ex-boyfriend Billy McKnight.
The 37-year-old’s death came a month after the suicide of Wilson. Wilson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on January 13. “He was a precious gift from God to all of us and, yesterday, he returned home and is now with his mother and father. David loved and was loved,” McCready said in a statement at the time. “Those who knew and loved him will miss him; those who did not know David missed the opportunity to know a truly loving and gifted man.”
