Survivor Kicks Off 14TH Season with Twists in Survivor Fiji

The Survivor franchise is set to begin its 14th season and is looking to shake up the reality television market that it helped define.

With competition coming from just about every angle and the constant struggle to remain fresh the Survivor franchise has seen its numbers dip in terms of viewers over the past few seasons.

In an attempt to recapture the viewers Survivor: Fiji has added a few twists to their formula. The tribe who wins the immunity challenge will now get the comfort of a cozy abode with food, a toilet, a kitchen, a couch and beds while the losing tribe gets a pot and a good luck sendoff.

In the past there has been one immunity idol and it was hidden on Exile Island. No longer. Now there are two hidden idols and they are buried somewhere in each tribe’s camp. Now when a team member is sent to Exile Island they get a clue as to where the idol is hidden but must search their campsite for the prized possession.

For the owner of the idol, another twist, it must be used before a vote is read.

As for Exile Island, Survivor has found it fit to make the contestants aware of the ubiquitous presence of sea snakes in Fiji. While relatively harmless unless provoked, they have been given a different reputation by host Jeff Probst.

Another unexpected wrinkle in the Survivor game, and it wasn’t by design, is the number of contestants. Tonight’s show will start with 19 individuals vying for the top prize of $1 million instead of 20. One selected contestant apparently had cold feet before the show began filming and dropped out.
