Actress Bonnie Franklin, who is perhaps best known for playing single mom Ann Romano on CBS’ One Day at a Time, has died at the age of 69. Her family confirms she passed away from complications of pancreatic cancer Friday at her Los Angeles home. Franklin announced her cancer diagnosis last September. She is survived by her mother and two stepchildren.
Before landing the starring role on One Day at a Time, Franklin appeared in TV shows like The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Gidget and The Munsters. One Day at a Time ran for 9 seasons from 1975 to 1984. Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli played Franklin’s teenage daughters on the series. Franklin most recently appeared on Hot In Cleveland and The Young and the Restless. Her TV movie credits include A Guide for the Married Woman, Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, Portrait of a Rebel: The Remarkable Mrs. Sanger and Your Place…or Mine.
Franklin was married twice. Her 3 year marriage to playwright Ronald Sossi ended in 1970. She wed film producer Marvin Minoff 10 years later and remained married to him until his death in November 2009.
Franklin’s family plans to hold a private memorial next week.
