Volkswagen's Golf TDI Nominated as Finalist for 2010 Green Car of the Year Despite Drop in Audi Sales

Volkswagen AG's Audi luxury-car division had announced a drop of 6.8% in September sales. Worldwide deliveries dropped from 95,136 a year to 88,600 cars. German sales fell by 28%. In 2009 Audi repeated a goal to sell 900,000 throughout the whole year. Deliveries for the nine month period fell 7.5% to 705,300 cars.

Volkswagen has also recently announced their new Golf TDI has been chosen by the Green Car Journal as a 2010 Green Car of the Year finalist. At this year's Los Angeles Auto Show Press Days on December 3rd the winner will be announced. The Golf TDI holds a world record for averaging 67.9 mpg when driven through the 48 contiguous states in 19 days. The EPA estimates the Golf TDI gets about 30 mpg in a City and 42 mpg on the Highway. The starting price for the Golf TDI is $21, 990.
