An early morning crash on a highway in northern India left at least a dozen young children dead, authorities of Punjab state confirm. The accident occurred in the Gahir area of Jalandhar district around 8 a.m. local time. The school bus collided head on with a truck. It is unclear who was at fault.
Police say 12 children under the age of 12 were killed along with the bus driver. At least 10 other children were injured and are being treated at a nearby hospital. The condition of the truck driver is unclear. About 35 students were on the bus at the time of the crash."Seven students died on the spot, four died in hospital. The driver of the bus also died," local police official Rajinder Singh confirmed.
The accident is under investigation.
