Teen Cartel Assassin Found Dead in Central Mexico

A teenage drug cartel assassin who recently confessed to the murders of at least 10 people was found dead on the side of a road in central Mexico last week. Authorities identified the boy as 13-year-old Jose Armando Moreno Leos, a cartel hitman who was briefly detained last month by Federal Police. Leos was released because Mexican law bans the incarceration of anyone less than 14 years of age.

"After being detained, he confessed to authorities that he had participated in at least 10 homicides and that he was somebody who was good at shooting with a high-caliber weapon," said Zacatecas state attorney Arturo Nahle Garcia.

Leos’ body was discovered on the side of a road in Morelos last Thursday along with the remains of 4 women and 1 man. All six victims had been shot execution style and their bodies showed signs of torture. "They all appeared to be young people, but we're still in the process of positively identifying the bodies," Nahle Garcia added.

Authorities have not named any suspects. The killings remain under investigation.
