While making it very clear that he opposed George Bush’s decision to invade Iraq, Clint Eastwood also pointed out that there was something to be said about the “tenacity” of the President.
In speaking with Fox News Eastwood expressed criticism for the U.S. led invasion of Iraq. The Hollywood legend and Oscar winning director took the stance that democracy comes from within a country and can not be imported by an outside source, “I don't think America got democracy overnight. It's something we had to fight for and believe in.”
That being said, Eastwood refused to attack the President.
Eastwood became a Hollywood icon portraying characters with a no-nonsense, renegade nature. It’s the seemingly obstinate nature of Bush that Eastwood admires, "Well, somebody who -- you've got to admire somebody who stands up for what they believe regardless of how the polls go.”
Eastwood is once again up for best director at this year’s Academy Awards. He earned an Oscar nomination for “Letters from Iwo Jima.”
