Corning MobileAccess also announced that Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore is the latest healthcare facility to utilize Corning's wireless technology, which is used by dozens of major healthcare facilities in the United States. The MobileAccess2000 DAS was deployed in the hospital's newest clinical building, a dual-tower adult and pediatric care facility.
Installed by Gulf Coast Real Estate Consultants (GCREC), the Corning solution supports wireless coverage across 1.6 million square feet of space and 560 patient rooms.
"Wireless connectivity is being adopted by more and more healthcare institutions. Now, rather than asking 'should we add wireless communications services?' healthcare professionals are asking 'how can we make our wireless communications services better?'" said Derek Johnston, senior director, Market Analysis with Corning MobileAccess. "Corning MobileAccess technologies enable hospitals to do this by allowing for, and significantly improving, the usage of almost every device, from wireless medical telemetry technologies to smartphones and tablets."
The MobileAccess2000 provides multi-service, multi-operator wireless coverage over a single broadband infrastructure. The wireless solution improves indoor cellular reception for staff, patients and visitors; helps ensure constant connectivity for emergency communications; and provides fast, dependable access to patient data. The MobileAccess2000 can be installed inside hospitals without repeatedly opening up ceilings and walls, thereby minimizing disruptions to staff and patients.
Also, the Corning MobileAccess2000 will be supporting the HIMSS 2013 wireless footprint inside the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Corning's DAS was deployed in the convention center in preparation for Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3, bringing macro-network cellular signals indoors to enhance wireless service.
The CorningMobileAccess2000 will be featured at booth #5316 alongside the company's other solutions. The Gulf Coast Real Estate and Corning representatives will also be offering tours of the live Corning MobileAccess DAS installed in the convention center. Those interested in a live tour should visit the Corning booth at 11 a.m. on March 5-6.
