Iran has sentenced to death three people for their role in post election violence following President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s victory in June.
While the three unidentified individuals were sentenced to death a higher court must confirm the sentence.
According to reports two of those sentenced had ties to the Kingdom Assembly of Iran, a banned group in the country while the third individual was said to be associated with the People’s Mujahideen, a group that has advocated the overthrow of the Islamic republic.
Shortly after it was announced that Ahmadinejad had won re-election thousands of protesters took to the streets in demonstrations. Those demonstrations led to clashes with soldiers resulting in at least 30 deaths.
