College Football Scores: #5 Virginia Tech Hokies Crush Boston College Eagles, Stay Perfect in ACC Play

Tyrod Taylor was 7/10 passing for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Ryan Williams collected 159 yards rushing and a TD and the defense of the #5 Virginia Tech Hokies (5-1, 3-0) forced three turnovers and limited the Boston College Eagles (4-2, 2-2) offense to just 161 yards in a 48-14 blowout on Saturday.

Virginia Tech closed their first drive of the game with a 31-yard field goal from Matt Waldron and six minutes later they extended their advantage to 10-0 when Taylor found Danny Coale on a 24-yard touchdown toss.

That lead was pushed to 17-0 in the opening minute of the second quarter after Ryan Williams scored from a yard out and less than three minutes later Taylor hit Jarrett Boykin on a 41-yard touchdown pass and Boston College was buried in a 24-0 hole. Unfortunately it wasn’t over for the Eagles as Rashad Carmichael came down with an interception and went 22-yards for a touchdown and after Waldron added a 40-yard field goal Virginia Tech was heading into the half with a 34-0 lead.

After a scoreless third quarter Boston College finally found the scoreboard early in the fourth when Mike Marscovetra hit Colin Larmond Jr. on a 48-yard touchdown pass but 11 seconds later the Hokies were celebrating an 80-yard touchdown courtesy of a Ju-Ju Clayton to Marcus Davis hook up. David Wilson pushed Virginia Tech’s lead to 48-7 with a one-yard touchdown run midway through the final frame before the Eagles found the endzone in the final minute on a Marsovetra one-yard toss to Lars Anderson finished off the scoring.

Virginia Tech will have a key ACC showdown next week when they travel to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
